  •  The letters from this collection used in the book were written to New Orleans Archbishop Jean Marie Odin; Bishop Odin was previously (until 1861) the bishop of Galveston.  He had many friends in Galveston and they kept up correspondence with him during the war.  I would encourage you to visit the UND Archives Calendar (here).  Many Civil War treasures can be found in the 1861-65 summaries.  You can see my blog post about Bishop Odin and the UND Calendar here.
