Burdock Blood Bitters - Part I - 1883 Letter to Customer

This is the first of a 3-part series on "Burdock Blood Bitters."

In this first post I include an 1883 letter (my collection) to a potential customer/"patient."

In Part II, I'll include a photo of a beautiful BBB bottle from the collection of friend and bitters collector extraordinaire Ferdinand Meyer at Peachridge Glass. I'll also include some information about "what was in this stuff." It's a most interesting medicine!

In Part III, I'll include scans of an 1880s BBB almanac from my collection.

Enjoy!

(Notice that Logan & Co. is mentioned as a Wheeling, WV druggist...Matt Knapp at antiquemedicines.com has an excellent post on old Logan bottles here!)

I'm here via Fernando Meyer. He posted a photo of the Burdock Blood Bitters cover. I asked if the letterhead was present before I realized I ought to be coming here.

I not only do FDCs (20 yrs), but also put my art work on original old documents.

I have no idea what a Burdock Bitters bottle looks like, but I'm going to find out.

I'd also like to find some of their paper, and apparently some of it is still around, since you have this great letter.

Jim...Always fun to see you link back to Bitters Bottles. I think it is just wonderful that you are linking and expanding on the history of the bottles of our hobby. I suspect you saw some of Dans BBB Trade Cards. If not, I have a couple dozen. BBB put out the most to my knowledge.
